STEELHEAD
WINTER STEELHEAD
FEBRUARY - APRIL
Hands down, these are action packed days of fishing! Starting in February, through the middle of April, we chase winter steelhead in our local tributaries, found mostly in the Cowlitz and Lewis Rivers. These beautiful chrome fish are very active, showing off their acrobatic skills, as they come jumping out of the water when they are hooked.
The fishing technique we utilize to catch these fish is moving up and down the river into different drifts, casting, and side drifting our baits down along the river banks from a moving boat. The peak of this winter steelhead fishery is February mid-April.
SUMMER STEELHEAD
JUNE - JULY
These dime-bright summer steelhead runs can have very good results for fisherman. We target these fish on the on the Columbia River and nearby Washington tributaries. In the Columbia, we anchor fish, or troll in areas where these fish congregate, as they migrate up the river.
These fish can surprise you, and can come jumping out of the water before you even know they are hooked! Once you hook one – hang on tight, it’s going to be a wild fight! The best times to catch these fun summer runs are in June and July.
