Beginning in March, we start chasing down the most sought after Salmon in the NW – the “Springer.” These fish come back earlier than the other, Fall King Salmon, returning to our rivers rich in fat- which make them an absolute delicacy. Springer fillets in the stores run $40.00 - $50.00 /lb -so catching one is a definite prize! The Spring “King Run,” is typically around 25% - 30% of the fall run which makes us have to work hard for them, but once we land one, it makes it completely worthwhile.

 

These prize fish are caught March- April, using fresh herring as bait.  As, we move into May and June, we change up our landing techniques as we begin running lures when the water temperature starts to warm up.
